ABOUT THE ATLANTIC ECONOMIC CORRIDOR
The AEC is a geographic and economic alignment of western counties with similarly shared profiles in terms of population distribution, land quality and topography, availability of natural resources and under investment in infrastructure.
In 2015, Chambers of Commerce and a Group of action-oriented partners along 9 Western Counties (Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick, Kerry) signed up to a Charter to develop the Atlantic Economic Corridor (AEC). 2,725 Businesses employing more than 80,000 people operate within the AEC.
Business Vision for AEC
The vision of developing a ‘linear connected city of scale effect’ will enable the AEC to present opportunities for investment and job creation, bringing wealth and population growth to the region, resulting in a more balanced all island economy in the country as a whole. The natural resources of the corridor, both on-shore and off–shore, must be harnessed to the optimum and contribute to a long- term low carbon–high value economy in a region which will be the best location in the world for people to create their own future.
