Beckman Coulter announces €10m investment and 80 new jobs for its East Clare facility

Ennis Chamber congratulates its member, Beckman Coulter, on the announcement this week to increase its workforce as part of a €10 million upgrade to its facility at O’Callaghan’s Mills, County Clare.

The company, which is supported by IDA Ireland, is actively recruiting for 50 roles which will bring the headcount at Beckman Coulter’s County Clare site to 600.  These roles will span areas such as production operations, quality and regulatory affairs, and research and development. The announcement also included details about a further 30 additional jobs between 2025 and 2027.

As part of the latest expansion, new automated reagent filling lines will be developed, along with additional infrastructure at the 16,000sqm facility

 

Announcement

The announcement was made at the O’Callaghan Mills site on Thursday (July 18), by the Irish born president of Beckman Coulter Kevin O’Reilly, who was appointed in February of this year. The event was attended by EU commissioner-designate Michael McGrath, Senator Timmy Dooley, Cathaoirleach Clare County Council Cllr. Alan O’Callaghan, local elected Councillors. Also in attendance were President of Ennis Chamber Sheila Lynch and CEO of Ennis Chamber, Margaret O’Brien.

At the announcement, EU Commissioner-designate Michael McGrath, described Beckman Coulter as a superb case study of the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ireland, including into rural communities.

“There are few settings more rural for an FDI than this site in east Clare. Yet Beckman Coulter produces cutting-edge diagnostic tools here that are critical to the delivery of healthcare across the globe and at the same time makes a massive economic impact on this area,” said Michael McGrath.

“This reflects brilliantly on Beckman Coulter, on the skills pool available in Ireland and on how big industry and the environment can cohabit perfectly here.”

Economic Impact Report

An Economic Impact Report carried out by Clare-based consultants, Repucon, on the Beckman Coulter facility in County Clare revealed that the economic impact of the company is €183 million based on annual GVA (Gross Value Added) in 2023.  Employment income of the company for the regional economy  in 2023 was €55 million, of which €22 million is provided through its 220 employees who live in County Clare.
