Ennis a finalist in BoI Begin Together Awards
Late last week, Ennis was announced as a finalist in the the new Bank of Ireland ‘Begin Together’ Awards. The awards have been established to recognise enterprise and resilience in towns and cities across the island of Ireland.
The first part of the process involved a detailed submission, upon which the judges whittled down entries form over 300 to just 20, with two finalists chosen in each of 10 categories. Ennis competes against Sligo in the ‘Large Town’ category (population of 14k +).
On Thursday (September 17) Ennis made its pitch to the judges. Glor auditorium was the venue, allowing a cross section of businesses, community representatives and Mayor of Clare Cllr. Mary Howard to gather in a socially distanced environment.
We were put through our paces, with judges posing some very searching and probing questions.
Ennis Chamber president Allen Flynn commented: “The enthusiasm and sense of pride for our town was evident in the room. It was palpable. Everyone involved in the process commented on how energising the experience was.
Margaret O’Brien, CEO, Ennis Chamber added, “It was great to see so many forward thinking businesses so engaged in the process, and for that we thank Bank of Ireland for having the vision to launch the Begin Together Awards. The awards provided a positive focus during these difficult times, and have united and given hope to businesses trying to work their way through this crisis”.
