Ennis Chamber welcomes LIT Campus to Ennis
The mood music had been playing in the background for some time, but this week LIT, which has delivered a growing range of programmes on an outreach basis in Ennis, officially announced it is to open a campus in Ennis.
The news has delighted the local business community. Based on Bindon Street, the town centre location for the new Campus will guarantee additional footfall and will give a welcome boost to town centre businesses.
President of Ennis Chamber, Diarmuid McMahon said, “We congratulate the team at Clare County Council who have facilitated this development and we welcome LIT to Ennis. Although no strangers to the town, the fact they are to open a Campus in Ennis puts the relationship on much firmer and more official footing. We particularly welcome the launch of a number of CAO courses, with an intake from September 2019.”
A total of six degree programmes in Social Care, Early Childhood Care and Education, and Marketing and Management are now available through the CAO at LIT in Ennis for September commencement. Possibilities for evening and professional learning will also be opened up.
Commenting on the news, LIT President, Professor Vincent Cunnane said, “We are delighted to be able to progress our plans in Ennis. We intend to provide an expanded level of daytime undergraduate education through the CAO, as well as opening up the possibility of new evening courses and professional education.
“This is a real vote of confidence in Clare. Crucially, by allowing us to broaden our offering, this new facility adds to the educational options available to people locally, while at the same time enabling us to respond to the needs of business and industry in Clare.”
Diarmuid McMahon looks forward to further building on the already established relationaship between Ennis Chamber and LIT. “In recent years LIT has come on board as sponsors of the Tourism Category in the Clare Business Excellence Awards, which we greatly appreciate.
“Recently, Ennis Chamber played a lead role by liaising directly with LIT to deliver a bespoke ‘Local Tour Guiding’ Level 6 programme, launched last October and currently delivered at the Civic Room, Waterpark House. “With 25 students on the programme, we will see a boost to town and local tourism when they complete their studies in May. The Tour Guiding programme is subsidised and made possible through a funding grant from Cllr. Johnny Flynn, financed from his discretionary fund.”
Diarmuid McMahon concluded, “This positive news comes as a real boost for the town at a time when town centres everywhere are facing challenging times. Once more, I congratulate Clare County Council on this achievement.”
